Sleeping Dogs

Art Work of the Week

So this is late in the week. But perhaps it could be art work of the every other week. Maybe its just getting started. However the commitment of writing a consistent weekly account of my work is already tying- what with all of life's others dramas. So it was suggested I begin early, or pre-prepare each week to avoid this problem. However being prepared has never been my thing (regrettable as that is) and therefore I now fear for my Blog's longevity as  much as it's consistency, at this early stage. Week Two- even though it's actually week three.

I sigh and wonder if it really matters. Hopefully no one is paying attention to this. A thought that becomes more key as I write this frantically at my part time job- necessary to keep me my mum and Marcie in food and bills. Although it will never break the bank- perhaps this will;

Sleeping Dogs by Judith Livingston.

A beautiful drawing of the artist's friend's two lovely dogs asleep in their bed, and the owner of the dogs- was the commissioner of the frame making the image represent close relationships.

In Monochrome in off black/ brown and off white, using loose and free lines, the dogs are comfortably folding together, always as one, curled into an easy round in their comfy bed. For this work it was clear to me that a frame which suited the dogs' tired and comfortable disposition was required. Something that was as used to the space as they were. For this I chose a 'distressed' hand finish from a style which was originally more recently used for another client, who required a frame that looked 'lived in' to match another frame which was still 'hanging together' since the 1800s although parts appeared to be falling away.

So with this in mind, with rounded edges and the paintwork drawn back- there is a sense that this frame is lived in- just as the dogs' bed- comfortable and always there.
